A tall grass reaching
sometimes 6 ft. height. Culms erect, trete, smooth, hairy on the
nodes ; leaves up to 3 ft. long, 0.2 to 0.6 in. wide. Spathes
chafy, at first plicate, soon opening out, 1/2 to 1 inch long
an arista 0.2 to 1/2 in. long ; racemes umbelled; female solitary
; male spikelet usually few ; wings of lower glumes more or less
puberulous, ciliate.

In most places adjoining big
tanks. Pakhal lake. Not a good fodder. Nuts sometimes used as
rosary beads.
