Schemes

(a)Forest Fire Prevention & Management Scheme:

Under this scheme, the Government of India and State Government provide funds in 60:40 ratio. During 2020-21, proposals were submitted to the Government of India for Rs.1406.224 lakh. (Under Central share: Rs.836.966 lakh + Rs.569.258 lakh under State share). Various activities such as Fire line creation and maintenance, Fire watch towers, Procurement of fire fighting equipment, Fire watchers etc will be taken up in the scheme.

(b) Red Sanders Protection Scheme:

Under this scheme, the Government will provide funds to an extent of 30% of Red sanders sale proceeds to the department.

During 2020-21, the Government released funds to a tune of Rs 10.0 crore under head of account : “4406-01-101-11-19-530-531 VN”.

Activities such as e-surveillance,Base camps,Checkposts,Striking force parties establishment and maintenance are taken up.

( c ) Red sanders protection scheme (NBA-Access benefit sharing ):

Under this scheme, the National Bio-diversity Authority, Chennai is providing funds for prevention of Red sanders smuggling as well as to improve the regeneration of Red sanders species ”Pterocarpus santalinus”. During 2020-21, the NBA, Chennai released funds to a tune of Rs.31.55 crore to implement the action plan.
